A friend did this with her son and posted it on her blog, so I remembered how much fun this little magic trick is and Henry and I spent the afternoon with our volcano. I had made a bunch of play dough a while back that Henry had mixed together to make this really ugly color, but lucky for us it was the perfect color for a volcano.

First you put the "white stuff" in very carefully.

Next you put the "water" in. Henry thought it smelled really good.

Then the magic begins....

We started to get creative and add new colors. I thought the red looked the most realistic!

You've got to tell me how to do this! Also... what's your recipe for playdough?
Salt Dough (I make this in the bosch)
2 cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
4 tsp cream of tarter
(mix with bread hook)
2 Cups boiling water
2 TBS cooking oil
Food coloring(I actually wait until after then mix it in so that I can split it into several balls and add different colors it is a bit more messy though)
Bring water to a boil then add oil and food coloring (if you want)
Mix together.
For the Volcano, I just shaped it and dug a hole out. Then I put Baking soda in a small bowl with a spoon so Henry could do it himself and not ruin my whole box. And then I would pour vinegar into a measuring cup, I started to add food coloring to the vinegar or just dump it right in the volcano. After we were done I just dumped all the liquid into the sink and kept the volcano for a few days so that we could keep playing. It was great because it just hardened and made it better. It didn't even ruin my pan!
I'll have to try this out with the boys. Looks like fun!
You are so dang cute, such a good mom. My poor kids get so bored. I might copy your ideas.
love nat
