Seems like summer has just flown by. Jon went fishing this weekend with some friends, so I am finally doing a post. We had some fun today and made soap paint. There are a lot of different fun recipe's that you can do-I usually just do what I have on hand, so that is what you see here.
This recipe is:1Cup grated Ivory soap (half of a 4.5 oz bar)
1/2 Cup cold water
food coloring
First you grate the soap. Henry loved doing this. Unfortunately, we don't really use bar soap around our house, so my soap was a little old and didn't grate so well. It mostly just turned to chalk-it works, but just not as well. You don't have to use Ivory soap. You could use something a little more gentle on your kids.
Then you add the cold water and mix with an electric mixer until the mixture is stiff and thick. Then I split it into bowls because I like lots of different colors.
I stripped them and filled the bath tub-I gave them paint brushes because Henry said he didn't want to get his hands dirty. They actually loved doing both brushes and finger painting.
I couldn't believe how much Emma loved it. She didn't even try and eat it like I thought she would. She just painted so happily. Henry on the other hand was so worried that she was going to drop a bowl into the water! Funny kid.
He loosened up after a while and finally got his hands dirty! Or should I say clean?
Got to love it. Even after it hardened it was easy to clean up.
The water starts to look pretty cloudy after a while. I had to change water part way through. I was afraid that maybe they would break out in some sort of rash (Emma has really sensitive skin) but so far so good!
I just had to include this picture because wow-those are some nice cheeks.
I left for one second(don't judge me!) and I heard Henry say "Emma is painting my back!" I walked in and then he said "We are decorating Henry!" So funny.
It was a fun day in the tub. You don't have to get into the tub to do this. It looks cool when it dries on colored construction paper too. Here are a few more recipes you can use if you aren't going to bath in it.1st Recipe
1Cup laundry soap flakes
1/2 cup cold water
food coloring
Beat until fluffy
Can leave white if using colored paper
2nd Recipe
6Tbs cornstarch
2Tbs water
1 oz liquid soap
food coloring
mix cornstarch and water(stir)
mix cornstarch and water(stir)
add color
add liquid soap
Whip (doesn't go fluffy, more like a frosting paint-it is okay)

Hot fruit huh? You make me laugh- it was funny seeing you guys picking the fruit, but when I saw the bag of fruit...that was too dang hilarious! Do you can? As for the soap...this looks really fun, I think we'll try this for sure. This is the first time I've ever seen Emma look like Henry- too cute.
I don't know where you get all these ideas, but all the ones we've tried are a hit so far. My girls love the bath, so I'm sure this one will once again be a winner. I'm sorry about the other day... things are wonderful now. I want to chat again. I need to ask you something, too.
Oscar will love this -- I'm glad you have all the these great ideas. All I have to do it look on your blog and Oscar and I can have fun trying one of your creative activities. Thanks Melissa! It feels like forever since I've seen you all - it was fun to see such cute pictures of Henry and Emma.
I thought of you this weekend as our men were tromping through the wilderness. Hope you had a good time. It was good to see Jon, the cherry would have been to see you!
You are such great mom and a great friend too. Thanks for coming to my party. It really means a lot.
Cute pictures!!
You are so creative and I think your kids have the funnest mom.
There is another recipe for soap paint that is really easy too-you just mix in some food coloring into shaving cream. I thought you might like to try that one.
That is the cutest idea. I am going to have refer back to this when Dylan is a little older. It looked like your kids were having a blast.
Hey Melissa how are you guys. This looks like a ton of fun! Can't wait to try it! Your kids are adorable!!
You're kids are adorable! I love the soap paint. Obviously I can't do this now since we don't have kids yet, but I'll be sure to keep this in mind for when I do! How creative!
