Puttin the fun in Friday!

3, 2, 1...Blast OFF!

We made alka-seltzer rockets today with Grandma Anderson. The first few times it didn't work, because the film canister we had didn't have a tight seal, but then I found a different one and we had tons of fun shooting off rockets in our driveway. Henry loved it because he could do most of it himself.

First you fill a film canister half full with water. Then you put about a 1/4 of an Alka-Seltzer in. (you can do more and just pick it up off the ground to use again, or you can split it before you put it in)
Then put the lid on tight, and quickly place it upside down. ( Or if you just want the lid to shoot off you can place it that way.) We also let Henry hold it one time so that the lid would blast off. He didn't really like that too much!
Back up and wait! Sometimes it would take like a minute, and other times only 30 seconds or less.
Blast OFF! (sometimes it went so high, and others it just went above his head.)

Here is the stuff that you will need to have some rocket fun. I know film is a thing of the past, but you could probably go ask any developing place if they have some or try and buy cheap film at the dollar store. ( I tried the black canisters when I taught pre-school and they worked fine, but this time the one I had didn't seal too well-so it would just leak water and air-the white one worked perfect-except you couldn't see it as well as a black one)

We were a draw in the neighborhood. We had an extra four kids show up and want to do it with us. We had a good time.
This one didn't go off too high, it is by the little girls left arm.
Emma wasn't too impressed by the whole thing!
