Puttin the Fun in Friday!

Gone Fishin!

When I was younger my little brothers and I would always "go fishing" in our front room with some paper fish that my Mom had made. It was always a special time when the fish were brought out and we loved it! So I decided to make some fish for Henry to "go fishing" with.I made a fishing pole out of the broken end of an old fishing pole (you can just use a stick) then I attatched yarn and a clothes pin (optional for other uses) Then I just got one of those really strong magnets - I used a little school bus one I bought from the dollar store- and clamped it in the clothes pin. I tried a different magnet, but Henry needs a lot of success and very little frustration if things are to be fun for both of us. I found the big magnets were a little heavy and didn't always keep the fish attatched when he picked it up.
Then I drew a template and traced it on several scraps of scrapbooking paper. I did two of every kind so that we could flip them all over and play memory too (that was a lot of fun to do for Family Home Evening). Henry colored what he wanted then I lamenated them. I had access to a laminator, but you don't have to do that if you use card stock or don't mind making them again.
Then I attatched paper clips-or bobby pins because I did't have enough paper clips(they didn't work as well, but they worked). You could also put numbers or something on them to play a different game. Henry loved it and it has been good for patience, hand- eye coordination, and quiet time!

You are so cute! I did something like that for a ward Halloween party, the fish had a color on the bottom that sooresponded with a prize. But they were not as cute and I love the idea of doing memory with them as well. You are just super mom!

Great idea. I've never seen this just done with paper. I like the ideas for learning numbers or matching too.
